Krzysztof Zawierucha, PhD candidate from our Institute, works on the diversity of micro invertebrates in cryoconite holes as well as he is interested in functioning of glacial biome. Current knowledge on the invertebrate diversity and their role in the extreme glacial habitats is really poor. These invertebrates may play important role like, grazers and higher trophic level consumers, which controls algae and bacteria abundances. Moreover, those invertebrates may influence melting of ice surface.
